  1. jkim says:

In the cottage industry model experience was creative. The product had variety. We had time to get it perfect but there is no guaranteed income and product has limited supply. It also was too slow and we made the product alone.

In the factory, industrial model experience was not creative. We had a boss and we were not allowed to talk we were under pressure. The product was the same but in factory we worked fast and the product quantity was bigger and as a worker we had guaranteed income.

  2. jkim says:

ms.brown i wrote the answer in paragraphs but it does’nt show up

  3. vcsurgay says:

The pros for the cottage experiences are that you can work at your home and therefore the transportation is not necessary and you can go to the bathroom and eat whenever you want. So the timing and the choice is up to you. The special about it is that you can make your things up to your creativity. But the cons for that experience are that if you don’t sell anything you don’t get any money at all. Or if somebody steals your stuff you can`t get it back thst is working so hard and losing your thing. There are also pros and cans for the Products they do it is all up to your imagination. If you like someone’s Clothing or thing they have it is a disappointing because you can`t get it twice the same. But some people like that that they look different than the others.

And here are the pros for the Factory. In the experience there is more or less only one good thing and that is that is that you get salary. Salary is the Loan that people get even if they can`t sell any toys or clothing. The people don’t get a lot but at least something to help their families. The cons for the factories are that they don’t get a lot of free time and it is not by the choice you want you have to make it as the Chief says. They suffer under pressure. And they do the same things over and over. That is so much into the gray what people had or still have to do.

I think that cottage is better than factories because You can work however you want and that is my strength. Art and Design. But If I understood that correctly Ji Ho had a different image than me. He thinks about that both are good or more likely the factory. Well that is all up to us how we feel.

  4. Yun-Lin Wang says:

There are lots of “Pros” and “Cons” for working in the cottage and in the factory. First of all, working in the cottage can be more creative and you can do whatever things that you like to do in your own house. You can have a lot of time to make the things perfect, and it also has variety. The problem of working in the cottage is that there are no guaranteed incomes, it’s slow and it has limited supply.

Second of all, working in the factory is a lot faster than working in the cottage, because there are many workers in the factory, as there are many workers in the factory, the quantity of the product will be larger. The problem of working in the factory is that you will have a lot of pressure when you are working; the boss will be watching at you and will tell you to make the things quicker. You cannot talk when you are working and you can only take a break at scheduled times. My idea is similar to Ji Ho’s idea, the things that I have written is alike to his thoughts.

    • cbrown says:

Nice job. Good thoughts and clearly stated. Solid grammar. I would like to see the last sentence about JiHo’s ideas and yours more developed.

  5. Yun-Han Wang says:

The “Pros” for cottage and factory are very different. Firstly, I will talk about cottage. The experience is that you can use more of your own creativity to choose what you want to make. And another advantage is that you can work from home. The product has a lot of varieties, and you can have a sufficient time to decorate it, make it looks nice. Secondly, the experience in the factory is that work is elsewhere accelerated, and has a guaranteed income. Also the product is quantity.
Now, it’s the “Cons” for cottage and the factory. The experience of cottage is that there are no guaranteed incomes, because you work from home, and it does not have any creativity at all. And for the product, it only has limited supply. Next, it’s the experience of working in the factory. You will feel the pressure, and the boss will be observing at you. You cannot talk while you are working, and you have to travel to work. The products will obviously uniformity. I have the similar ideas as Yun-Lin.

    • cbrown says:

You used several specific words, so good use of vocabulary. Good thoughts and clearly stated. Solid grammar. I would like to see the last sentence about Yun-Lin’s ideas and yours more developed.

  6. antoine says:

The “Pros” for factory and for cottage are very different. When you are making some “Pros” for factorys, you are making lots of produces because you are working with a bunch of other peoples. You are also forced to make a specific model, and this is making you go much faster because you now what to do and you are not wonderng wich model you are doing. The factory attitude is also making a huge difference. The attitude in a factory is much more negative than at house, at the factory, you have somebody that remains you every 5 seconds that you are supose to work. When you are sailling your products, you have lots of this products so you can sall lots, but not different models.

When you are making some “Pros” at home, you are not making some products very fast because you are alone, you are also mor relax and we can chose the type of model we wantto make. When your thinking of what type of model you want, it’s taking you time for thinking, and you are losing time. Also at home you are the boss so you are going at the speed you want. For results, you have lots of different models to sall but, you don’t have two of a type. So if sombody want’s two same models, he can’t.

The two differents typs of “Pros” are good even if the “Pros” factoryis making you more money, you are more relax with the “Pros” at home. I have the similar ideas of Yu-han wang.

    • cbrown says:

Antoine, you focused upon the feeling and experience of both and brought up several good points. I would like to see the last sentence more developed, and I’m still hoping you can get English spell check at home soon.

  7. antoine says:

Mrs Brown sorry, but the paragraphes diden’t work.

  8. ypercik says:

In cottage it will be hard for you to make 5 copies of the same thing. In cottage the product is more invented then in a factory because in a factory you just want to make more toys and in a cottage you are doing whatever you want. You can be more creative. Some people don’t like to see another person wearing that same shirt and having the same toy because then the feel like they are not spacial anymore. In the cottage you can work however you want and no one can tell and what to do.. you can take a brake and go to the bathroom whenever you want….

in a factory the boss is telling you what to do. You don’t have any freedom and you have to do acutely what you have told. You have just one brake and you can’t give your opinion. In factory you have much more materials to work with then you have in cottage. You are making copies of the toy/ cloth or whatever every day for hours! You can’t be creative in factory because you already have the instructions. In factories you have more chances to get paid then in a cottage because in factories it will be sold! in factories you have much more pressure on you!

    • cbrown says:

Yuli, this has many good ideas and you’ve worked hard. Nice job. Please don’t use ellipses in such a casual manner. Come ask me what I mean. Also, let’s talk about how to bring in other students’ ideas please.

  9. hvardi says:

There are a lot of pros, cons and there is a lot of difference about working in a Cottage and about working in a factory.

First I will talk about the Cottage so for the pros comments the Experience is that is more comfortable at home, more creative and not need to make it so fast. The product is that it is different and you have only one. The second one is the cons comments the experience is that you might not get paid for that. The product is that you can sale only one toy.

Now I will talk about the factory so for the pros the experience is that you get salary for it. The product is that you work more quickly and you make more toys. The experience for the cons is that there is a lot of pressure, work more time , short breaks and when you make every time the same thing it is BORING. The product is that it is all the same uniformity.

I think that when you are working in your house it is better, but there are some bad things also because in your house it will take you more time to do creative toys while in the factory you can make a lot more toys but not creative ones and all of them will be the same. So my idea is similar to Ji Ho’s idea because as I understand he said that the both of them were good and bad.

    • cbrown says:

Hagar, you’re working hard have mentioned several ideas. You’ve also used transition words and paragraphing. I liked your structure. The three paragraphs work well.

  10. Ha young Shin says:

In 18 century, there was the cottage industry model which was working in their houses. There are many pros and cons for the cottage. First, when I look at the strength, I noticed that it is much comfortable to work in their places because when we have to work for quite long time, we can work with wearing the comfortable clothes and in the content place. We also don’t have to waste our times in the transportation. If we have to go to a factory and it is far from our house, we should spend some times to get to the factory. Which means it is good for us that we can stay in the cottage and do a more work instead of wasting the times in the buses or cars. When we make something to sell them, it is our choice to choose the shaper or colors which are creative and also, we can use our times by ourselves. There were many pros for the cottage but also, there are many weaknesses we could find. First, sometimes after we finish our works and show or give to others it is hard to get paid from them because the techniques might be weaker than works form the factories.

Working in a factory is working with many others and working like machines. We could find some positive and negative parts while we are working in the factory. For the pros, we can work efficiently because we have our own job to do. Also, we become more disciplined so we can make things more quickly. I also noticed that there are some cons which workers are having too much pressure during the work because the boss is keep giving the works to do and workers have to deal with that to earn money for their families. They also get short or no breaks to relax so it will be tire and hard to finish the works. The workers have to do the same things for whole day and it will be boring and they will not have enjoys to work.

I understand the idea of Viola, which is the cottage, was better than factory. In my thought working in the factory is better than working in the cottage because goal of working is to earn money but if I work in the cottage I can’t be sure about getting money from others.

    • cbrown says:

Ha-Young, you’ve explained yourself well, each paragraph is logically clumped together, and you’ve explained how you think differently than Viola. You’ve really put effort into this 🙂

  11. dongkyu says:

There are many pros and cons of both cottage industry and factory. Pros of cottage industry are that makers can choose how to use their time to make it perfect, and they can work from home, but cons of cottage industry are that there would be limited supply and income would not be guaranteed. Beside cottage industry, there’s industry which is called factory industry. That industry can make larger number of items in faster time than cottage industry, but there’re also cons. Workers in the factory get many disadvantages for quantity. They’re in pressure, there is boss, break is scheduled, no talking, even they should travel to work.
For that, my idea is related to antoine’s idea, because I also think factory industry is better than cottage industry, because factory industry can let workers earn guaranteed amount of money, and when they can make items faster, they can sell more, then pay more to workers.

    • cbrown says:

DongKyu, several good ideas, but I have a couple of suggestions for you. The first is that you go back and check your articles. The second is that you look at the last paragraph, which is all one sentence. Can you break it into smaller and more than one please?

  12. Tae Won Park says:

Long time ago, lot of people worked in cottage; because that time there wasn’t have factory and when we finish making toys we have to go and sell to others, so we have to spend time to sell it. Working in factory has advantages and disadvantages. Advantages about working in factory are we can save lot of time and we can make more quantity of toys and we can earn lot of money every day than working in cottage.
Disadvantage about working in factory is manager’s gives lot of pressure about speeds, quality and quantity. They break at scheduled times no talking work is elsewhere travel to work. Products are not perfect than working in cottage, because we spend lot of a time in one toy but when we work in factory we have to make quickly and we can not use our time in every toys.
Havardi says that working in our house is better than factory, because when we work in our house we can make more creative toys. I piggyback Havardi’s ideas, because when we working in house it takes lot of time, but the quality of toys are better than the quality of factory.

    • cbrown says:

Tae-Won, very thoughtful! It was easy for me to read and follow, and I find many of the things you highlight are ones I notice as well.
We still need to work on articles. Can you look it over and tell me where you think you need them?

  13. dabi says:

To compare the difference between cottage and factory. They both have many pros and cons. In cottage, we can do our own ideas on the product and we can take time doing the product. We don’t have to hurry and be nervous if we didn’t finish the product on time. But, there’re no guaranteed income work to home and sometimes the supply it’s not enough.
In factory, we can work in elsewhere and doesn’t have to stay home always. If we work in factory we can be expert in acceleration and the product is not limited but always increases. Meanwhile, there are some negative if we work in factory that is, we always in pressure because we only can break in scheduled time and no talking. The boss keep on order to do things quickly and etc. we have to travel to work and it may cost and need to wear a uniform even though it’s pretty or not.

    • cbrown says:

Dabi, you have several important ideas here regarding both the product and experience. I would like you to review this for articles and verb tenses. Also ask me to explain referencing a colleagues’ ideas.

  14. SooBin Lee says:

After I had experienced working in the cottage and the factory, I realized that there were huge differences these two places and I couldn’t decide easily which one was better because both had advantages and disadvantages. Here are the reasons why:

First, working in the cottage is comfortable and you can relax whenever you want. Because it is your choice to spend how much time to make pets, you can think more deeply, and I think that leads you to have more creativity. Unlike factories, no one can force you to work quickly. Also you can save money because transportation is not required. Since the finished products are all different from each other, some people who like to have something special and different from others, will like the products made from the cottage. However, some people don’t like cottage pets because there is only one and they like to wear same clothes like twins. In addition, products might not get paid in steady rate.

Second, factory workers get paid and have salary. It wouldn’t be a lot but still, it’s better than nothing. Since there is the director of the factory, workers would make many of them and more quickly. The cycle of busy factory will be efficient and become more discipline. On the other hand, workers will have terrible pressure from directors. They work a lot but have a short break which lead to have bore and tiresome. And finished product will have same appearance which causes dullness for some people.

In conclusion, both of the working places have advantages and disadvantages. I actually agree with all colleagues but especially, Hayoung. If I must to choose where I want to work, I would rather work in the factory, because even though it is harsh, I would get the salary. And if you work in the cottage, you might not get paid everyday when you sell it.

    • cbrown says:

SooBin, a lot of thought went into this post and it’s well organized too. I like your use of transition words. Nice job and it’s clear to me how you think you see things similarly to HaYoung. Ask me about the grammar errors in the last two sentences of the second paragraph.

  15. SuHyunn Kwon says:

I and classmates had an experience making the toy in our own and making toys together in the factory. I had a different experience and I also have some of pros and cons between them.
When I think about pros between cottage experience and factory experience, there are many differences. The advantages of cottage experience are that I could show my creativeness and I absolutely had a choice my self. I also didn’t have to go to the factory to work. During factory experience, the new experience was that I have to work only in the factory. Because, I and my classmates made one each in our own and we also made ten toys together in the factory so I have the differences between products. Probably there will be only one style of toys which I made my self but the toys I and classmates made together has several same styles. I think the toys we made our own will coast more. This means that the toy I made myself will have more variety.
There are also some cons between cottage and factory experience. The toy I made myself will not have the guaranteed income. And we had the limited supplies. The disadvantages in factory were that we had a boss who gave us the pressure and made us not to talk during work. We have to travel to the factory from our home. Our products are obviously the same.
I had a great experience and learned about the differences between working alone and working together.

  16. jiyoon says:

There many “pros” and “cons” working in cottage. In cottage, we could make the toys creative, with lots of fun. I enjoyed making the toy because I could make in my own way. I didn’t have to hurry to make it. It felt good when I thought my toy was special because it was only one that is in the world. I could relax any time I wanted and I could work on my toy in comfortable way. But, in cottage, there were few disadvantages. We didn’t know people will buy this toy or not. It was important because it decides what foods we will eat at dinner. We couldn’t make a lot of toys because we made our toys slowly.
In factory, there are also many “pros” and “cons”. We could make majority of toys, in short time. Compare to time we took for our cottage toys and factory toys; I think that the factory toys took less time than cottage toys. We could get the salary for what we made. Disadvantages of the factory toys are they are all the same looking. Those are not special, not unique, and not creative. We had to rush all the time because the foreman pushed us to work hard and quickly with good quality. It was hard to satisfy the foreman. The foreman wanted large quantity and good quality toys. It was almost impossible. We also had short break so we couldn’t rest even we were tired.
I think the cottage toys are more qualified and more worth. In factory, people were like machine for toys. But in cottage, they could make the toys more detailed with their enjoyment. I agree with Tae Won’s idea because it is very similar as mine.

    • cbrown says:

JiYoon, this is well considered and I enjoyed reading it. There were several sentences that were well crafted. In the following sentence, where would you put the conditional tense? “We didn‚Äôt know people will buy this toy or not.”
Also, see if you can find missing articles.

  17. chaewon kim says:

In the world there are a lots of products from many kind of factories. All of them are competing with their products.I am gonna wright about the weakness and positive strength of cottage products and factory products.
Both of them have totally different ways to produce their produts. For example,
the scale of producing products is really different that the factory makes more products than cottage.
Cottage let people works at comfortable place and people can mange their time.More over, their products are unique, probably thir prodcts might be only one in the world. However, there are some disadvantages of cottage products.
In cottage there might not get paid, the percentage of salary is very afew.
Factory also have many advantages and disadvantages.Factory can product alot of things at one time so that they can sell a lot products with earns money, also we can make products quickly.In-addition,the owner can let employee work disciplinely. There are more percentages of salary.
Both of them were very good way to earn products, but i like cottage way than factory becuse i love unique things that more valuable than other same products

    • cbrown says:

ChaeWon, nice effort with many ideas. I would like you to think about the following areas to work on: 1. Put a space after the period before you begin the next sentence. 2. Never use lower case i for the word I. 3. Remember, you are asked to reference a classmate’s ideas. Ask me to explain to you please.

  18. WJ says:

There are a lots of pros and cons between factories and cottages. First, pros of cottages are people’s personal taste. It means the cottage’s industry can be a originality. Also, it is a small quantity, so, it is rare and it is very invaluable. We can feel artinism by cottage’s industry. On the other hand, the cottage’s industry is expensive, because it has a small quantity and usually, we ca’t repair the objects. Moreover, it’s hard to anounce to the public. For example, we can advertise companies , but mostly we can’t advertise cottages things.
Further more, there are pros of factories. We can export in large quantity. Also, the many of goods from factories are not so expensive, because they are mass produced. So, I think when we want to increase productions, we must have a more efficient system. It is more popular than cottage’s. There are cons of factories product. It looks really uniformity, because all of products are same. For example, when you walk around in the shopping mall or anywhere, you see someone has same clothes with you. I feel not good. Secondly, in factories theres no personal opinion, you have to obey and keep follow their direction.
So, I think my idea is related to Dongkyu’s, because all the factories people have to make their products faster and same.

  19. Tae Won Park says:

Long time ago, a lot of people worked in cottage; because that time there wasn’t have a lot of factory and when we finish making a toy we have to go and sell to the others, so we have to spend a lot of time to sell it. Working in a factory has advantages and disadvantages. The advantages about working in factory are we can save lot of time and we can make more quantity of toys and we can earn lot of money every day than working in a cottage.
The disadvantage about working in a factory is a manager’s gives a lot of pressure about speeds, quality and quantity. They break at scheduled times no talking work is elsewhere travel to work. The products are not perfect than working in a cottage, because we spend a lot of a time in a toy but when we work in a factory we have to make quickly and we can not use our time in every toys.
Havardi says that working in our house is better than a factory, because when we work in our house we can make more a creative toys. I piggyback about Havardi’s ideas, because when we working in a house it take a lot of time, but the quality of toys is better than the quality of a factory.

  20. junholee says:

Today I think many products are from factory, but I think cottage is better than factory. First I will explain about cottage’s pros and cons.

Cottage is most creative things in the world. If two different people make doll by cottage, then it’s looks really different. We can improve our skills by our own creativity. If we use cottage then we can also work in the home. It’s really comfort, no transportation and most important thing which is creativity. But here is a con. We might not get paid! This is really important for merchants. They make merchandise for their life. If they can’t sell it then they can make the money that they can help their family. Also, if there are people who like to wear exact same. They need two pairs of clothes but if they make a product by cottage then they can’t make exact same. They might not like it. Cottage is most creative but some people don’t like it.

Factory is like a printer. We can make it exact same and we can make many pieces. We can also buy many same things in one time. This is good for who likes to wear exact same clothes. But this is not good for creative people. They need some things which are creative and their own, but factory is all exact same. No creativity. But they can get the salary. YIPEEE!!!! But they really need to work hard. If they are not their boss might fire them. They lose their job and they might sleep on the street. In the factory they have a really short break. Its not enough for taking a rest. Even its really boring. Not funny. Only work and work.

In my point cottage is better than factory. I’m piggy back on Chaewon‚Äôs idea. She also said she love unique things that more valuable than other same products.

    • cbrown says:

JunHo, this is some of the best work I’ve seen you do. Your ideas are clear and well thought out, and you’ve used the Discussion Starters. We still need to work on subject/verb agreement and articles.

  21. Minji says:

Working in the cottage and working in the factory have pros and cons for each of them. You could be creative when you work in the cottage. You have a wide range of choice. You choose what the shape of the product is, what the materials you are going to use, what kind of decorations there will be, and so on. Your product will be unique and different from any other’s product. To make it perfect, you can take your time and work freely. You may work in your house so it will be more comfortable to you. However, you won’t have guaranteed income regularly.
If you work in the factory, you will have salary regularly. But for that, you need to work quicker and produce a large quantity under the pressure from the boss. You also have a schedule in the factory so you can’t rest whenever you want to. You required concentrating on the work without any talking or other activity. The products would be uniformly shaped. There might be a lack of quality because you don’t have enough time to pay attention to every little detail or to each of the product. Here I have same opinion with Tae Won as he said that the products are not perfect than the product produced in the cottage.

    • cbrown says:

Minji, this is well organized and thought out. I also liked that you specifically explained how you think similarly to TaeWon. You also used the conditional tense.

  22. meor says:

In the 18century before inventions was discovered everything was manmade such as toys, shirts, pants etc…. but now in the 21 century everything was usually made in a factory. with the helped of Ms. Brown I have experience the difficulty of making toys in the 18 century and the 21 century. I want to piggy back Dong Kyu statement about the toys but let‚Äôs try to view in my ways.
For the 18 century there were a lot of pros and cons about making toys. Firstly the pros, usually if you are making toys in your own cottage u can easily use the facilities whenever you want without any concern from the foreman, you can even decide which outfit that you feel suitable for making toys, and you can create your own toys with your own creativity without any other suggestion. Secondly the cons, you might imagine that making your own toys with your own time was good and easy but you are wrong, there are many flaws for making your own toy such as that you lack the spirit for making toys efficiently, you can get distracted easily, and you produce fewer toys day by day.
For the 21 century they were a lot of pros and cons about making toys. Usually things get more high-tech then the 18century because nowadays people work in group to increase the efficiency of making toys. If you work in a factory you will learn how to cooperate with other stranger on making a toy, it will gives you discipline, and you get salary for every toy u made. Secondly the cons, to star t working in a factory u need to have a lot of perseverance to get use to it; facilities are restricted and limited, you have to be on time! To work here.

    • cbrown says:

Hi Meor, You’re improving in your diligence and idea development. Well done. Remember, we’re not texting. It’s not ‘u’, it’s you.
Can you find the subject/verb agreement problem in the first sentence?

  23. Misato Ueda says:

Cottage and factory work has both positive aspects. The positive Experiences of cottage are we can choice how to use time, have a time to get perfect, and it’s creative and can work at home. The positive experiences of factory work are easy to work and factory use lot of peoples so lot of poor people can get salary. Then the positive products of cottage are it can have perfect quality, and looks different by each people so many kinds of toys were there. The positive products of factory are it can to make a lot of toys in short time so it has more quantity than cottage. But both works has negative aspects too. First the negative experiences of cottage are no guaranteed income, and limited supply. And the negative experiences of factory are we have to hurry, and it’s boring because we make a lot of same things at long time every day. next the negative products of cottage are it takes long time to make a lot from one people and if quality is bad then people have to take a responsibility. And the negative products of factory are it can only make one kind of toys, and a plant manager makes we hurry so quality of toys are decrease. I think the factory work is better than cottage because factory work can get sufficient salary but cottage is not, and if I work at home, there is no person to see how I’m working hard. I have a similar idea of Dong Kyu.

  24. Misato Ueda says:

This paragraph doesn’t have a space after one paragraph so
Cottage and factory work has both positive aspects. The positive Experiences of cottage are we can choice how to use time, have a time to get perfect, and it’s creative and can work at home. The positive experiences of factory work are easy to work and factory use lot of peoples so lot of poor people can get salary. • cbrown says:

Misato, you have very clearly explained your thinking. You have also organized this in a way that makes it easy to understand. I can tell you worked very hard on this and it shows. I also notice you went back in and added paragraphs. Nice job.

  25. Kos says:

In the 18th century the industrial revolution changed the world. There are many pros about the industrial revolution, First in the factory there are many more products that are made every year than in the cottage industry because the machine work faster and better than a human being. There is also a question about money, does people who live in a farm and work for the cottage industry gain more money than the people that are working in a big factory? I think that people that are working in the factory have a better salary because even if it is harder to work by yourself you still can’t get a high salary because in the cottage industry people that were buying the cloth weren’t very rich and I think that most of the factories were located in big cities and people that bought the factory must have been very rich and the people who worker there they certainly knew more about money than farmers who never worked in their life.
There are of course many cons on the industrial factory. First, a lot of people lost their jobs because of machines .One machine worked for three thousand people. So there was a lot of people who didn’t have a place to work and no money. I think that you work better at home because in the 18th century there was no transportation (except horses) so people that lived far away from the factory had a really hard time.
I conclude that in my opinion the factory was a better place to work because of the salary and the number of production.

Kosma, you have good ideas and you’ve really focused upon the organization. Well done. There is a sentence that starts with “I think…” that is run-on and very long. How would you break this up?
